Childrens’ Parade - led by Prince and Princess

Lineup starting 4:15 pm by Monroe Middle School. All children invited to participate; must be accompanied or supervised by an adult, parent, or a group leader - if attending with a group. Groups should pre-register with Monroe Park and Rec (608.329.2466). Children and families NOT with a pre-organized with a group can just show up the day of the event.

To be consistent with guidelines for Sunday’s parade: No political office holders allowed, no political parties, no political messages or signs, and no political candidates allowed.

2024 Route: Begin by Middle School. Go right (east) on 12th Street (going past Suisse Haus and continuing past Heartland Graphics). North on 18th Avenue – travelling between City Hall and Post Office. At Wisconsin Community Bank parking lot – go west on 9th Street. At Stop and Go corner, go south on 16th Avenue – passing by Monroe Theatre Guild. Proceed onto west side of Square and continue south toward Middle School.

CHEESE DAYS

Back in 1914, the concept of Cheese Days originated from the notion that if some little town in Illinois could have a festival commemorating sauerkraut, then a celebration based on cheese would be an even better idea.

A group of local businessmen planned the festivities in just nine days, driving a roadster through the city of Monroe to publicize the event. A hand-lettered sign attached to the vehicle proclaimed “FIRST CHEESE DAY COMMITTEE 1914 – WE STARTED SOMETHING!”

And did they ever.

100 years later, we invite you to take part in our centennial Cheese Days 2014 – where old-world tradition has generated an out-of-this-world celebration.

Help us celebrate our Swiss heritage with traditional music, dance, drinks, food, and extraordinary cheese!
